The Value of Attachment to Inherited Land. Under review.
When Turkish heirs cannot agree on dividing inherited land, a court sells it at auction, open to outside buyers. Across two years of nearly ten thousand auctions in central Turkiye, heirs paid about 10 percent more than outsiders for parcels of the same estate. The premium is not better land, and not inside knowledge. What heirs pay for is attachment.
Land Consolidation Seen from Satellite Imagery. In progress.
Turkiye's land consolidation programme is only patchily recorded in administrative data. We train an image classifier on satellite imagery of 668 Central Anatolian villages to date when each village's field pattern changed, then estimate the programme's effects with a staggered difference-in-differences design.
Did the Vineyards of Cappadocia Survive the 1923 Population Exchange? In progress.
Using Ottoman-era registers and later village records, we ask whether the vineyards of Nevşehir survived the 1923 Greek–Turkish population exchange.
